SUICIDAL HOLLYWOOD

As I navigate the choppy waters that is the current economical situation in America, I try to find new and better ways to save money. This stands to reason because I am the sole "bread winner" of our growing family. That means that my wife and I are getting pretty good at stretching a dollar. In short, we spend on the necessities and cut out the rest. Though having to exist on a very tight budget is very stressful at times, I have found solice in the fact that what goes around comes around.
For decades, Hollywood has decided that is their obligation to preach their gospel from the silver screen. If a new liberal trend surfaces, they just have to make a movie that is designed to brow-beat you into towing their convoluted line. When that doesn't get your attention, actors use the bully pulpit of their celebrity to impose and promote their morality (or lack there of) on you.

Call it Karma. Call it pure irony. Hollywood may have finally shot themselves in the foot. You see, in the past decade or so, Hollywood has been trying to convince us that by our very existence, we humans are going to destroy the planet through man-made global warming. Sometimes, it may be a simple line or two written into a script. Other times, global warming is the main plot of a block-buster movie. As a result of this constant obvious and occasionally subliminal agenda being injected into our movies and TV shows, our elected officials decided to take the liberal bait.
So now we have $4.00 a gallon and rising gasoline. We have abundant oil resources that we are not allowed to touch. The price of food is rising because of the ethanol debacle. All culminating into the perfect storm of economic crises for regular folks.
Today, "we the people" are being forced to budget as we never have in most of our lifetimes. The irony is in how we budget. If given the choice between spending on food, gas, or entertainment, entertainment gets the ax. That means that people can no longer afford to rent movies, let alone drive to the video store. We buy fewer if any CDs. And we don't even consider actually going to a move theater. The merchandise connected with a movie is now expendable as well.
Then there is the other back-lash of what we opt to do in our spare time as opposed to giving money to Hollywood. Reading, walking, bike riding, socializing with friends and family are bound to make a comeback. Scrabble and Monopoly may start to become popular again.
With a more active, healthy, and mentally sharp population, Hollywood may become obsolete and dare-I-say, lame.
And it's not beyond the realm of possibility that people might just get angry enough about prices to do a little investigating as to just why it's happening. If that ever happens, Hollywood itself could become the next "evil" character. After all, they do have a supporting role in our current situation.
Now that my former CD and DVD money is going into my fuel tank, I can honestly say that the old adage still applies, especially to Hollywood.

Be careful what you wish for.

Good Morning,
I am sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. The reason we are in this predictament is greed, pure unadulterated greed and it is greed that motivates the desire to destroy the anwar and any other natural resource that remains untapped. It is not for our benefit that private parties wish to drill, clear cut or mine us to death it is theirs. We have technology that we have underutlized for generations including solar, sugar ethonol, which Brazil uses in mass since 1973 and vegetable oil. We can use Hempseed oil as well but we refuse. Perhaps it is time for us to nationalize some our resources for national interests instead of private parties.
Respectfully
Jaycee

ACOW,
Greed? If it's greed that causes me to want lower fuel prices, then color me greedy. Never mind that I'm trying to support a family.
Destroy ANWAR? Who said anything about desroying ANWAR? I've seen ANWAR. There's nothing to destroy. Drilling does not require the destruction of anything.

Sugar, vegetable and hempseed oil require too much energy to produce in the quantities that our nation requires. You can see the effects of such a short-sighted idea right now when you go to grocery store by way of the ethanol debacle. The price of corn is causing problems around the globe. Brazil's industrial requirements are a fraction of America's.
Solar is decades away from meeting our requirements as well. That's why you don't see solar cars on the road.

Nationalizing our resources is socialism. Socialism is an abomination that crushes the human will, and puts our lives into the hands of beurocrats and government thugs. Read your history...it's riddled with examples of this.

I'm sorry you were never taught about free market economics. I'm sorry you were never taught about the evils of socialism and the virtues of freedom and liberty.

I will also tell you that my family tree is full of people who have sacrificed to destroy communism. If you are going to try to defend or promote any kind of socialism here...you will find that I am not you average blogger. You better bring your "A-game".

100% RIGHT Roady and a GREAT piece!

We have 800 BILLION barrels of oil off our shores, and on U.S. lands like ANR and the Bakken Ridge in Montana, and far more in oil sands and shale oil!

Oil WILL remain the life blood and primary fuel for the foreseeable future precisely because it delivers far more energy per gallon than ANY of the existing "alternative fuels."

Moreover, ALL the alternative sources are going to be controlled by today's BIG ENERGY conglomerates anyway. They're poised to buy out those who bring them to market...but we're going to use up most of that HUGE supply of oil FIRST!

Oil, like some other commodities has exploded in price, largely because we've kept our abundant source of oil OFF the market and global DEMAND has grown far faster than global SUPPLY.

Speculators have also played a role lately in that some Hedge funds and other large investors have parked a lot of money in oil and other commodities as our stock market has been so volatile.

Eventually (probably within the next few months) that will change and oil will almost certainly become much cheaper than it is now.

If (for instance), America announced new plans to drill, much of that speculative bubble would disappear and the price of oil would plummet precipitously, probably by half its current price!

A minor CORRECTION:

We have 800 BILLION barrels of oil off our shores, and on U.S. lands like ANR and the Bakken Ridge... SHOULD READ We have 800 BILLION barrels of oil off our shores, and on U.S. lands like ANWR and the Bakken Ridge...

I also like your prediction concerning Hollywood. They've bought into the enviro-Ludditism that has greatly benefitted both OPEC and the Energy Companies by making thier product more expensive and profitable, while simultaneously undercutting demand for their own product.

There's a real irony to that.

Good Evening,
Roadhouse, Our shared desire for lower fuel costs withstanding, it is about greed. You don't own or have any real stock in Exxon, Equilan, Conoco Philips, Unocal, Or British Petroleum, so you would never see a real benefit from lower fuel prices. Only they would. Thier shareholders alone. How do you think the Rockefellers feel about the massive mountain of money they've made at the expense of the American People? Are they gonna give it back? Heck No! We used Hempseed oil in place of Petroleum for generations and there was no evidence that it didnt work or any report that it was expensive to do but the petroleum lobby, over 50 years ago, lobby, those hacks in congress to support petroleum and they paid them. This is documented fact! As a result hempseed oil was fazed out and petroleum fazed in.
The Diesil engine we use today is not the diesil engine Rudolf Diesil designed which ran on vegetable oil. Greed, Oligarthy, the few making money off the many. Electricity and other natural resources should be Nationalized for the benefit of the Nation. Our tax money should maintain it like it does now, we should research and explore for it with Tax money and any money made should go to the benefit of the whole nation not just a few venture capitalists. And furthermore, why are so called conservatives always fighting for a few fat rich cats? They never fight for you! Were are they now when you, the truckdriver is paying 5 bucks for diesil? Are they giving you a tax break? A rebate? No...they take your money and say thank you as you struggle to keep your rig running.
Thank you for the chance to share!

ACOW,

MORE ASSUMPTIONS? Whoever is feeding you information about my stock portfolio is steering you way wrong. I hope you didn't pay for that info...you got ripped off.

I am well aware of the history of the diesel engine. It has no bearing on this discussion. But this does: As we are seeing right now, when we split our food supply (corn, sugar, etc.) for the sake of producing fuel, we lessen the supply of that food. Hence, a higher food price. Add to that the amount of energy required to grow, harvest, transport and turn those crops into fuel and you raise the price of fuel again. If a farmer is growing anything for fuel (even hemp), he is NOT growing something for FOOD. Hence the high food price. This is the "ethanol debacle" I referenced in the earlier post.

There is more than one oil company here in America. It is competition between these companies that keeps a check on monopolies and helps keep the price fuel low according to the market requirements. If you don't like Exxon's price, you go to Texaco, and so on. It is only when the government gets involved with their global warming BS, excessive taxation and regulation that the common man suffers.

It is the government that "takes" my money and gives me headaches in return. I willingly GIVE money to oil companies and they give me fuel in return. Not to mention fat stock returns that I will recycle into the economy. It's called C-O-M-M-E-R-C-E. Nationalizing our fuel supply will lead to nothing but rationing and shortages. All while putting more power into the hands of beurocrats and making dependant little slaves out of the rest of us, begging "Big Brother" for an extra gallon of fuel so we can visit our relatives. Then having our land taken "for the good of the state". This is not exactly a "benefit", it's the former Soviet Union.
If our government was so brilliant, they would be letting us drill and build more refineries.

I'm pretty sure I want the same people who gave us FEMA, the IRS, and the DMV in charge of our fuel supply...NOT!
