THE BRIGHT SIDE

If there is a list of tenets that describe conservative doctrine, in the top tier would have to be the ability to accept reality. Being a conservative, I have had to accept the cold hard reality that I have no candidate in the 08' election. Even if John McCain could win, he is only a thimble full of issues away from being a Democrat anyway. No matter how you slice it, we are entering the dark ages regarding conservative philosophy, and our country is going to suffer greatly for it.
Accepting this reality has lead me to a crossroads. I can spiral into a depression that will surely end my marriage and cause me to lose all faith in humanity as a whole, or I can look at the bright side. I choose the latter.
Yes, there is a bright side to liberals having total control of our government. My theory is based on the old concept that sometimes things need to get worse before they get better. It is also based on things I know from history. So here is a list of silver linings to the cloud that is coming to a sky near you.

1. We will finally find out how high gas prices will have to go before people actually do something about it.
2. Hunting will once again become fashionable and socially acceptable because of the high cost of groceries.
3. Jobs will become so scarce that even the most liberal among us will become bitter about illegal immigration.
4. Syria and/or Iran will take over Iraq after our surrender/pull-out, giving me the right to say "I told you so".
5. #4 will embolden terrorists around the globe to attack the United States again. This will show the country how wrong the libs were and lead to a new conservative up-rising.
6. Israel will be forced to take drastic actions against newly emboldened terrorists.
7. Russia, North Korea and/or China will feel left out and ultimately try to attack Israel, sparking a new world war.
8. A new world war will remind the slackers in this country about their priorities in life.
9. Manliness and rugged individualism will not only become fashionable, they will be necessary to survive.
10. Feeling their oats, liberals and Muslims will try to get away with too much, too fast and turn the world against them.
11. Government cheese is great with crackers and spam.
12. You'll meet new friends and reunite with old ones at the unemployment line.
13. I'll have really cool stories about the second depression to bore my grandchildren with.
14. My kids will not only know the value of a dollar, they will cherish it.
15. Teenagers will no longer be able to afford tattoos and body piercings.
16. Since pharmecuticle companies will be out of business, people will have to deal with their emotional problems the old fasioned way...beers or Bibles.
17. Everyone else's car will be as crappy as mine.
18. I will be proven right.

Hey Roadie! Great post. I really like number 18, "I will be proven right." Ain't that the truth! Roadie, you might want to read a post I wrote back in February. It's called "Our Time In The Wilderness". It's about what we conservatives can do in the event of a liberal take over. I'd like to know what you think. Cheers!

Actually, IF I were cynical, I'd think that BOTH Parties are trying to throw the coming election.

The Dems punishment of FL & MI and the large number of Caucuses (NOT Primaries) that Barack Obama has won, has left the candidate most observers thought was their strongest going into the Primary season (Hillary Clinton) out in the cold.

Obama has lost most of the large states (NY, CA, TX) and with Democratic voters being alienated in FL and MI....AND his Wright and Ayers flaps having alienated most workingclass whites, Obama seems a very flawed candidate.

BUT the GOP, not to be outdone, has put up one of the weakest candidates in recent and not so recent memory. In fact, John McCain was considered a looong shot at the start of the Primaries and has still not enthused the Conservative base.

Hillary Clinton stays on to fight - advantage McCain?

But then, out of no where Bob Barr jumps into the frey on the LP line - advantage Obama?

Who knows where this will all end up...and really, who cares?

The Democrats have the numbers and are poised to let the tax cuts expire. With that, income tax revenues are almost certain to decrease as higher income earners (the top 10% of income earners already pay over 70% of the income taxes) defer more of their compensation/income in tax deferred vehicles. An increased Cap Gains rate will deter investment/jobs creation and the result of that coupled with an orgy of Dem social spending would almost certainly be something close to, if not worse than a "Carter-Redux" replete with Stagflation!

Could a John McCain be counted on to stop that?

Hardly likely, given the Dem numbers in Congress.

Could he forge an alliance with many Conservative (Blue Dog) Dems?

Possibly, but hardly guaranteed.

So what else would a McCain Presidency provide other than allowing the GOP to "share the blame" for the coming economic malaise?

No matter how we slice it, it looks like it's going to be a very tough next four years.

The choices seem to be this, an Obama ictory in 2008 and a Democratic collapse well before 2012, perhaps, (depending on how fast it gets bad), a GOP re-takeover of Congress by 2010...and the ultimate villainization of LIBERALISM for yet another generation.....OR a McCain victory, a lot of heartbreak for foresaken Conservatives and worse still, a sharing of the blame for the economic incompetence of the Keynesian Democrats - a la "the McCain economy."

There's no good choice for Conservatives in 2008.

I still think the media had more to do with McCain's nomination than the GOP, but it doesn't matter now.

I wish I could share your optimism for 2012, but there are two wild cards that have to be factored in; the media, and radical Islam.

Thanks for checking in.

Should the economy tank under tax hikes that decrease tax revenues and government overspending, the media will turn on a Dem pretty fast, just as they turned on Carter back in the late 1970s.

It makes sense too.

"Blame the man, to spare the ideology."

Radical Islam will also only help the Conservative cause. They'll take a Democrat win as they took Spain's electing a Leftist PM after the Madrid bombings...as a cowardly shrinking from the WoT from yet another Western nation.

It's a miracle that we haven't been attacked already...SHOULD an Obama gut the Patriot Act, stop the NSA surveillances and seek to "negotiate" with terrorists, they'll only be emboldened and another attack would be easier and far more inviting.

The sad thing isn't the eventuality of the failure of Liberalism, but all the concommittant pain that will apparently have to accompany that.

I too have been secretly (not anymore ,I guess) hoping Hussein Obama or Billary get elected specifically for reasons 4,5, 10 & 18. All your reasons are good and...uh... well, reasonable.

Good job as usual!
